This award is for the most outstanding contribution by a clinician in clinical practice. This may take the form of high quality audit, case series or a prospective or retrospective study. This award is intended to recognise the important contribution that clinicians may make to the Society without use of control subjects or randomisation.  The award is judged at the annual scientific meeting.    

The award is for $1000.

An award of $1000 is available for the best poster presented at the annual general meeting.

DePuy Spine Clinical Fellowship Bursary  

 The DePuy Spine Clinical Fellowship Bursary is designed to encourage and promote the pursuit of dedicated Clinical Spine Fellowship Training. The Bursary funds are aimed to assist the successful applicants with the costs associated with attending an overseas fellow program.

  There are 5 individual Bursaries available for 2009, each valued at $AUD15,000. To be eligible for consideration to be awarded a Bursary, applicants must satisfy the below criteria:


• 

 

Written confirmation of the applicant’s acceptance to a Spine Fellowship Program (confirmation to be in writing from the Fellowship Hospital’s Department Head or equivalent)
Fellowship must be clinically based
Fellowship program must be predominantly Spine focused (greater than 75%    Spine)
Fellowship Program to be at least 6 months in duration
Fellowship Program must be based outside Australia
Applicants must currently be on an Australian Surgical Training Program    (Orthopaedic or Neurosurgical)
Applications must relate to a Fellowship Program that will commence in the calendar years of 2009 or 2010 only

Details of Depuy Spinal Fellowship

 

 
   
DEPUY SPINAL FELLOWSHIP:

The DePuy Spinal Research Fellowship is to promote research into clinical and basic science relevant to the practice of spinal surgery. The Award is for up to $35,000. Additional earnings are allowed within the conditions of the Award. 

Application for this Fellowship must include a Supervisor who is a member of the Spine Society of Australia.  Preference will be given to clinical research, and to an Orthopaedic or Neurosurgical Fellow or a registered advanced surgical trainees.

Applicants will be required:

• To have shown ability or promise of ability in research.
• To have made suitable arrangements with an established investigator
   under whose supervision the work is to be conducted.
• To show that the proposed topic of research is acceptable to the
   institution concerned.

The Fellowship is for twelve months and is normally tenable only within Australia or New Zealand.The Award is for up to $35,000. Additional earnings are allowed within the conditions of the Award.

The Fellowship is advertised in the July and December issues of the AOA Bulletin and the corresponding Neurosurgical Society of Australasia Newsletters, and the Spine Society of Australia website. See the advertisement for the closing date.

The presentations are judged by a panel of members who are nominated by the President.
